Become a student at Phase3

1. Set up a Meeting

You can call us, or write to us to set up an introductory appointment. We want you to understand what the Phase3 project is about, and we want to understand your family and what you are looking for in a school for your child. We can generally meet with you within a couple of days.

2. Meet with us

You will meet with the Head of School. The objective of the meeting is for you to learn more about the mission of Phase3 and the questions the Phase3 project seeks to answer:

  • What do we know about the social and economic environment that our children will encounter when they leave school?
  • What is the best way to prepare our children for this future?
  • What skills will our children need in order to thrive in a world of accelerating change?
  • How do children really learn?
  • What is our role as parents in our children’s education?

You will also to have the opportunity to obtain answers to practical questions, such as:

  • What will my child’s day look like?
  • What is the ratio of teachers to students?
  • How much recess do the children enjoy?
  • Do I need to provide snacks for my child?
  • What happens in an emergency?

If it looks like Phase3 might be a good fit for your family, you will receive an Enrollment Application Form to complete and a time will be scheduled for you to meet with your child’s prospective teacher.

3. Meet with the Teacher

This is a crucial step at Phase3. Your relationship with your child’s teacher will span several years (or more, as you may develop a friendship that goes beyond the school). It is important for you and your child’s prospective teacher to meet in order for you to understand the teacher’s approach to education, and for the teacher to understand more about your hopes and expectations.

You may have specific questions, or your child may have specific needs. This is the time to bring those up. After this meeting, you should feel confident that your child will be in good hands.

4. Registration

If we (you, the teacher and staff) jointly decide that your family and Phase3 are a good match, and if there is an immediate opening, we will ask you to provide a completed Enrollment Application Form and a deposit (deposits are applied to your last month’s tuition) to complete your child’s registration.

We will then provide you with a countersigned application that gives you your child’s start date, schedule, and fees due on the first day of school.

If we do not have space available for your child, or if you are interested in enrolling your child in the future — when she is old enough, for the next school year, or when you move into the area — you can place your child on our waiting list. We will keep track of your desired time frame and program of choice and will contact you when a space becomes available.

5. Enrollment

Once your child is registered, you will receive a Parent Handbook and an Enrollment Package. The Enrollment Package contains several forms — immunizations, health records, emergency contacts, etc. — that must be completed before your child can be admitted into school. Many of these forms are required by law.

Please return these forms, along with the fees outlined in your copy of the application form, before your child’s start date.

6. Welcome to Phase3!

You are now a member of a unique community of families whose focus is to provide their children with the best possible education. Thank you for entrusting your precious family members to the Phase3 community. We look forward to getting to know you and your family.

At the end of the meeting, you and the teacher will decide if you want to take the next step. If so, a time will be scheduled for your child to spend some time in her prospective classroom.

4. Orientation Day and Assessment:

Your child will be invited to spend a full day in her prospective class. This allows the teacher some time to get to know her better, and your child has an opportunity to get a sense of what a class at Phase3 is like and make connetions with her teachers and classmates.

Throughout the day, your child will have many opportunities to interact with the teacher. During the day, the teacher will ask your child to complete a few written assessments (language and math), and to participate in a lesson or two. This will allow the teacher to place your child at the right grade level, and to make specific recommendations to allow for a successful transition to Phase3.

There may be specific areas where supplemental tutoring would be helpful, or where a more advanced enrichment program might be appropriate. This is to enable your child to have a successful experience in the class from the beginning.

Once we have the results of the assessments, we will call you to review them, and to suggest the best next steps for joining Phase3.

After the Orientation and Assessment, we (you, the teacher and staff) will jointly decide whether your family and Phase3 are a good match, and if there is an immediate opening, we will ask you to provide a completed Enrollment Application Form and a deposit (deposits are applied to your last month’s tuition) to complete your child’s registration.
